Ever wonder HOW you can help influence what

shows on our stage next season? It’s so simple…

Host a PLAYREADING!

HOW?  You ask - it’s easy – just 5 simple steps:

  1. Contact the Playreading committee to determine a date you’d like to host (playreading@sterlingplaymakers.com).
  2. Decide WHERE you will host – can be your home or somewhere else (e.g., Sterling Community Center).
  3. Select the play you wish to have invitees read.
  4. Obtain the script and make copies as needed for the reading.
  5. Prepare how you will assign parts. On average 10-20 attend.

During the playreading, collect feedback from attendees on our playreading forms (found on the web site). These forms may be submitted by any member at any time for consideration of a future show to do.

Recommendations for a successful evening:
Draft up specifics (play, author, synopsis, rating) and send them in for the Newsletter and Membership Email at least 1 month in advance. Ask attendees to bring their own beverage and snack to share. Make sure to collect and destroy all copies made. Ask previous hosts or the committee for help if needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's a "play reading" and why should I go?  Well, a monthly play reading occurs at a Playmaker volunteer's home to read a play or two that everyone then gets to critique and give feedback to the Board of Directors. The Board then reviews all of our forms and tries to see what we the membership body is excited about or think will be a good one for us to do one year. This is your ticket to get involved with some behind the scenes administration as well as enjoying a script. Many a 'non-actor' has come out to just listen in or to read a part, where they normally would never get on stage. Opens doors & educates us on different shows.

Can I only give feedback for shows at a play reading?  Not at all!  You can read plays on your own and submit a critique. As a matter of fact, we highly encourage this to keep the list of shows growing & diverse. They are all being reviewed by the Board of Directors prior to the next Season Selection so this is where your opinion can count!
