The Sterling Playmakers Presents... Our 2009-2010 Performance Season! By William Shakespeare Dates November 6, 7, 8, 13, 14 & 15, 2009 Director: Jim Johnson Synopsis: Like many of Shakespeare's comedies, this one centers on mistaken identity. The leading character, Viola, is shipwrecked and loses contact with her twin brother, Sebastian, whom she believes dead. Posing as a man, she becomes page to a Duke who is in love with the bereaved Lady Olivia. The Duke uses his page as an intermediary. Olivia, believing Viola to be a man, falls in love with the page, while Viola, in turn, has fallen in love with the Duke. Much confusion and comedy ensues. By Mary Chase
Synopsis: When Elwood P. Dowd starts to introduce his imaginary friend,
Harvey, a six-and-a-half-foot rabbit, to guests at a society party, his sister,
Veta, has seen as much of his eccentric behavior as she can tolerate. She
decides to have him committed to a sanitarium to spare her daughter, Myrtle Mae,
and their family from future embarrassment. Problems arise, however, when Veta
herself is mistakenly assumed to be on the verge of lunacy when she explains to
doctors that years of living with Elwood's hallucination have caused her to see
Harvey also! The doctors commit Veta instead of Elwood, but when the truth comes
out, the search is on for Elwood and his invisible companion. When he shows up
at the sanitarium looking for his lost friend Harvey, it seems that the
mild-mannered Elwood's delusion has had a strange influence on more than one of
the doctors. Only at the end does Veta realize that maybe Harvey isn't so bad
after all. Dates Jul 30-31, Aug 1, 6-8, 13-15 2010 Synopsis: Brigadoon tells the story of a mysterious Scottish village that
appears for only one day every hundred years, though to the villagers, the
passing of each century seems no longer than one night. The enchantment is
viewed by them as a blessing rather than a curse, for it saved the village from
destruction. According to their covenant with God, no one from Brigadoon may
ever leave, or the enchantment will be broken and the site and all its
inhabitants will disappear into the mist forever. Two American tourists, lost in
the Scottish Highlands, stumble upon the village just as a wedding is about to
be celebrated, and their arrival has serious implications for the village's
inhabitants. Dates October 9, 2010 and TBD We are looking for candidates to direct a cabaret-type show of approximately 2
hours in length that will perform at SterlingFest (Columbus Day weekend) and one
other venue, such as Franklin Parks Art Center. The specific show content is to
be determined by the director. Performance dates are to be determined by the
production staff, with approval from the Board. By Joe Campanella Dates December 3-5, 10-12, 2010 Synopsis: Molly is a twelve-year-old girl who wants desperately to rekindle her
father’s Christmas spirit by buying him the perfect gift – namely, an expensive
winter coat. But finding and affording just the right coat isn’t easy, even with
the help of her best friends. Then one night, Molly meets an elf named Elliott,
a misfit sent by Santa to learn the true meaning of Christmas. By helping Molly,
Elliott hopes to help himself. Unfortunately, Elliott is klutzy and careless,
and does a better job of getting Molly into trouble than helping her. With a
dozen fun characters, another dozen singing extras, and five original songs, The
Elf Who Came for Christmas is funny and heartwarming on all age levels. |
