The End of the Roads

A murder mystery dinner theatre production written and directed by Glen Bartram

PERFORMANCES

All remaining performances have been cancelled.  It was a great run, but we've reached the end of the roads.

The Playmakers venture into newly charted territory with The End of the Roads. This will be a roving production throughout the 2008-2009 season. We plan to run this production at multiple venues starting in December.

The premise: It be the final night of operatin' for The Roads of Dublin, a quaint li'll Irish pub with a fair loyal clientele. Unfortunately, the bar is gonna be gutted and revamped by a shady, ne'er-do-well restaurant mogul into "Doyle's," a chain restaurant that attempts to "recreate" the Irish experience. Everyone is putting on their best face for the final night including the barman, the waitress, the shy lass, the performing duo, the reverend, the producer, the cop, and… the barfly. But will someone's dastardly deed cast a pall on the evening?

Cast Openings!  The director is seeking actors and actresses to join the cast for our 2009 performances.  We are seeking two men (30-50) and one woman (18-30, MUST have basic guitar and singing ability) as part of the main cast, as well as two female and one male understudies.

Characters

Vincent Rhodes – Wealthy restaurant proprietor. Owner of Doyle's, a restaurant chain of "cookie cutter" faux-Irish pubs. He is not Irish, despises the Irish, and sees his chain only as a means of making money. He has his sights set on acquiring "Roads to Dublin" a small Irish pub which has fallen on hard times

Kate Massey – A very prim woman in her 40's. She was once married Arliss Massey who was Vincent's business partner. Vincent pushed Arliss out of the business shortly before Arliss was diagnosed with cancer. He died shortly after, and as a result, Kate was left with no part of the business in the will. Kate has been working with a friend of Pats in the public defenders office to try and get the office of wills to review Arliss's estate and use a loophole to establish her claim in the business.

Shannon Donnelley – Singer for the Irish music combo "Donnelley and O'Donnell" Shannon was once a skilled guitarist as well, until an altercation with Vincent left him with limited use of his left hand, and resulted in scuttling his negotiations for a record contract. Shannon actually tried to kill Vincent a year ago by paying some palooka Vivica knew from the club. The guy, a long haul trucker took the 500 bucks and was never seen in these parts again

Johnny Donnelley – Shannon's brother. Guitar player for the "Donnelley and O'Donnell" combo. Doesn't understand who O'Donnell is, cause it's not him. Johnny is nutty as a fruitcake, and has an invisible friend named Belinda. (He has a foil lining in his hat to block radio waves) Evelyn has frequently provided spiritual counseling to Johnny and directed him to get enrolled in therapy.

Vivica Toombs – Local bar wench at "Roads to Dublin" Once was the headline attraction at a gentlemen's club that Vincent closed down. She also dated Rhodes for a time, and is currently having a secret relationship with John Savini, while they attempt to develop a TV pilot.

Donald Mallone – Owner of "Roads to Dublin". Donald built the "Roads" (with his own two hands) over 30 years ago, and has run the place and tended bar ever since. He is being strong armed by Vincent into selling his beloved pub for a pittance.

Evelyn Reynolds – Reverend of the local protestant church. Evelyn had been involved in some nasty doings a number of years back during the heat of the conflict in Northern Ireland. Vincent has been blackmailing her for some time, extolling certain favors in the community in return for not divulging the skeletons in her closet.

John Savini - John is a television producer who had been in talks with Vincent to develop a sort of reality TV show set in Vincent's flagship Doyle's restaurant location. John has been having a clandestine relationship with Vivica for a few weeks, and hopes to be involved with another Television pilot that John is developing

Patricia O'Toole – The Cop. Patricia had been on Vincent's payroll for a number of years as a police detective. She was beginning to document a case for turning states evidence against Vincent's corporation when two of his key witnesses disappeared the day that she submitted the names for questioning to the review board. Patricia's reputation took a downturn after that and she was busted down to Patrolman.

Glenn - "Guinness" Mathers – resident drunk of the "Roads". Pretty much lives at the bar. It's his oasis of serenity in a harsh world. He's also something of a Yoda, mixing nonsensical pearls of wisdom from a barstool.
