SHAKESPEARE’S A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM TO CELEBRATE OATLANDS 200th BIRTHDAY
The Sterling Playmakers' spring production of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, presented this month in the theatre of the Sterling Middle School, will honor Loudoun County’s local historic site, Oatlands, which celebrates its 200th birthday this year. Director of this classic comedy, Karen Schlumpf, has envisioned the play’s action as taking place in the 1830’s at Oatlands and nearby Leesburg. The theme will be carried out in the sets, costumes and references to local places. This creative choice will add even more to the audience’s enjoyment of the fun and frolic already found in the Shakespearean plot involving two pairs of lovers, meddlesome feuding fairies, and rustic local yokels.
Featured in the cast are David Chappell as Theseus, Liz Smith as Hippolyta, Marsha Moseley as Hermia, T. J. Miles as Lysander, Leah Daily as Helena, Thom Dyer as Demetrius, Brian Farrell as Oberon, and Marianne Meyers as Titania. The local yokels are Jonathan Dyer, Jerry Garegnani, Meg Roosma, Maria Dampman, Amanda Snow and Bob Barry. Others in the cast are: Kathy Bleutge, Katt Hancher, Traci Brooks, Lizzie Cunningham, Christie Farrell, Jordan Garegnani, Kelsey Hancher, Lacey Hancher, Jill Hughes, Taylor Lemmon, Carolynn-Eva Primeau, Caitlin Schmidt, and Eva Trefzger.
