Peggy Sawyer came to Broadway in 1933 with big dreams of stardom. After landing her spot in the dance line of a new musical production, she comes face to face with a director with something to prove, a lovelorn tenor, and a volatile leading lady with the financier in her pocket. Is this her big break or only an opportunity to fall on her face? Based on the 1933 film, 42nd Street danced its way to Broadway and the Tony Awards in 1980. Popularly known as a dance extravaganza, this fan-favorite musical also includes such hits as “The Lullaby of Broadway,” “We’re in the Money,” “Dames,” and its title song “42nd Street.”
